Coach Matt grew up in St. Paul and has played his entire club and school career here in Minnesota. Although he continues to play, he does recognize that the game is ever evolving and enjoys diving into how to break down the game in new ways. He is very much a student of the game and hopes he instills that into his players.
Matt brings a play style that demands hard work as well as allowing players to express themselves through the game, even if that means making mistakes. He creates an atmosphere that challenges players and encourages creative problem solving.
In his time away from coaching club and high school soccer, Matt enjoys spending time up north and anything that involves cooking and grilling.
Coach Benton Cady grew up playing in White Bear Lake, MN. From a young age, his father sparked his interest in the game, taking him to MN Thunder games when they were still based at NSC in Blaine. While in high school, Coach Cady had the opportunity to play a few friendlies and attend several pro matches in England, cementing his love for the game. He completed his playing career at Lake Forest College in Illinois.
Coach Cady works for ISD 11 as a Special Education Art Teacher and has spent more than a decade working in education across the K-12 spectrum. Also recently married, he and his wife recently welcomed a baby girl to the family whom Coach hopes will someday share his interest in the “beautiful game.”
He is the recipient of the 2021 MN State High School League Assistant Coach of the year award.
